Sometimes things get very tense or even explosive. And everyone fights! It’s just how we fight that matters. In therapy, we work together to understand what you each bring to this co-created dynamic, and use evidence based strategies to find healthy communication, peace, regulation, healing, and closeness in your relationship. We establish safety so you can deliver important messages to your partner without fear of igniting an argument.

Often, couples present to therapy to explore starting a family, to address issues surrounding a current pregnancy, to find support for a high risk pregnancy or sick child postpartum, or to discuss their role as new parents. I use both my expertise in Perinatal Mental Health and Couples Therapy to assist couples in navigating this tricky time.

Parents can feel lost sometimes. Remember, we are all just learning how to be parents on the fly! Perhaps you need more alignment in parenting strategies or to solidify your communication style while parenting your child. Parenting is hard and we all need support sometimes.

Here is where we can do some “scheduled maintenance” for your relationship. Anything that we love and want to keep around, we take good care of. It can be very rewarding to do some couples therapy to cultivate the best relationship you can with the person you love.

Everyone has a limit. Sometimes, the work is acknowledging and accepting irreconcilable difference and where to go from here. In this therapy, we cultivate very good, respectful communication skills to navigate perhaps a tumultuous time in your lives. Some couples choose our session to be the time during their week that they communicate, as they feel the therapy is a safe space to discuss challenging matters.

About Couples Therapy
In Couples Therapy the focus is on the health of the relationship. Couples Therapy can be helpful in many ways. We use it to build strong relationships, to repair troubled ones, to deepen and enrich good ones, and to separate well from ones that have , or need to, come to an end. Couples seek therapy at many different stages of their relationship, not just when things feel hopeless.
My couples therapy sessions are founded in Gottman principles and skills (see The Gotttman Institute), as well as Attachment Theory based. We spend time getting to know you as a couple, how you got together, your strengths and challenges as a couple, and your hopes and fears for your relationship. We discuss relationship dynamics, identify problem areas, and utilize evidence-based tools and interventions.
